Welcome to Tonka Bay

A mere one square mile and home to 1,500 residents, Tonka Bay makes the most of its size, showcasing five beaches and parks. Once a destination for vacationers from Minneapolis, Tonka Bay was “discovered” in1856 when horticulturist, Peter Gideon, acquired 160 acres of land in between Lake Minnetonka's upper and lower lakes. He created an apple that could endure the Minnesota climate.

Almost completely surrounded by water and positioned between the Upper and Lower Lake, Tonka Bay residents may choose to live on any of the four scenic bays: Gideon Bay, Echo Bay, Carmen Bay or Lafayette Bay. A variety of parks allow families room to play. The Linbow Marina, Caribbean Marina and Tonka Bay Marina, the largest full-service marina on the lake, draws thousands to their boat slips during warm months.

Sumptuous homes, selling for an average price of $1,133,000, provide luxurious surroundings for those who want to live near the water. The affluent gated community of Clay Cliff is located on a Tonka Bay peninsula.

Tonka Bay features a small shopping district with the famous Country Club Lanes, community-oriented pizza shop and coffee bar among other retailers.

Tonka Bay students attend award-winning Minnetonka School District schools.
