Nature lovers relish the city of Minnetrista which is home to nearly 8,000 residents. This rural community is dotted with farms growing corn, hay, and beans. Horses graze in lush fields overlooking multiple lakes that line Minnetrista’s borders: Whaletail Lake, Little Long Lake, Mud Lake, Ox Yoke Lake, Sanders Lake. Six Miles Creek runs through the western part of the city. Gale Woods Farm Park, located on Whaletail Lake in the Three Rivers Park District, features an old farmstead that takes visitors back to a simpler time.

The name Minnetrista derives from the Dakota words mine and Trista, meaning "crooked water." One of America's first transcontinental auto routes passed through Minnetrista in the 1900s. This route was called the Yellowstone Trail and brought many travelers through the town.

Today, Minnetrista is over 25 square miles with nearly as many parks (more than 20) and bike trails winding through gorgeous wooded terrain. Homes here average $566,600. Students attend one of four school districts – Delano Schools, Waconia Schools, Watertown-Mayer Schools or Westonka Schools.
