Chanhassen

Welcome to Chanhassen

This western suburb is on the move. Chanhassen, its name derived from the Dakota words meaning "sugar maple tree," sprung up in the 1850s in what was once wide-open farmland to become a fast-growing community. Perhaps best known as the home of Prince’s Paisley Park recording studio, Chanhassen is also famous for the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, where actress Amy Adams and other notables have taken to the stage.

Today, Chanhassen is a multi-industry city of 300,000 residents covering 24 square miles. The average home price is $428,000. Attracting families who enjoy year ‘round outdoor activities, Chanhassen boasts five beaches, 70 miles of bike trails and beautiful parks, such as Lake Ann Park and Lake Minnewashta Regional Park. One of the country’s award-winning botanical gardens is located here, The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Thrill seekers will enjoy a downtown skate park including a wedge quarter pipe and halfpipe among other features.  Those who prefer water to concrete flock to fish for Northern Pike in surrounding lake waters both in summer and winter.

Actors, such as James Denton from Desperate Housewives fame, professional baseball and football players call Chanhassen home. Over the last decade, Chanhassen has received many accolade and awards, including, most recently Money Magazine’s "Best Places to Live” list.

Chanhassen straddles two school districts, Eastern Carver County ISD 112 and Minnetonka ISD 276. Both districts are known for their quality education.
